Our Board of Directors
Sarah Gilbert joined the Board in 2018. She worked in Arts Fundraising and Development for 10 years, most recently at the Baltimore Museum of Art as the Board Liaison. She attended Goucher College in Baltimore where she received a BA in Art with a concentration in Arts Administration. She currently stays at home with her two daughters, a former and a current ECC student enrolled in the Owls class. Sarah enjoys ballet, museums, crafting and her Peloton bike. She is originally from New Jersey. Sarah, her husband, their daughters and their dog Deniro reside in Gaithersburg.
Karina joined the board in 2017. She has served as the Treasurer since 2017. Karina previously worked as a real estate agent with Long & Foster and as a para-planner with Ameriprise Financial Services. She attended college in California. Karina is passionate about animal rights and the environment and dedicates her time to non-profit organizations. Karina resides in North Potomac with her husband and their two daughters, one a former ECC student and the other currently in the Owls class.
Jennifer Gardner joined the Board in 2019. Prior to starting a family, she worked in banking for 10 years, most recently as an Operations Manager in a retail branch of a credit union. She attended the University of California in San Diego where she received a BA in Anthropology with a concentration in Cultural Anthropology. She is currently a full-time mom to her two kids, one a former ECC student, and one a current ECC student enrolled in the Ducks class. Jennifer enjoys sewing, reading, learning photography, yoga, hiking, and hopes to return to her love of surfing and rock climbing in the near future. Originally from Phoenix and then San Diego, she now resides in Rockville with her bestie, who also happens to be her husband, two spirited kids, and a sweet little furball named Molly.
Kristy joined the Board in 2018. She currently serves as the Secretary. Kristy is Vice President of Jefferson Business Consulting. She previously served as senior staff for the Committee on Veteran Affairs, U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. She also was a middle school teacher in New York City through the Teach for America program. Kristy attended Rutgers where she received a B.A. in Biology and NYU where she received an MPA in Health Policy. Kristy enjoys traveling with her family, trying out new restaurants and is a fan of HGTV. She resides in Rockville in a loving multi-generational household with her amazing husband, delightful daughter, who is a Owl at ECC, wonderful parents, and pet Maltese Aji.
Emily joined the Board in 2018. Prior to staying home with her two children, Emily taught second grade and kindergarten in Montgomery County Public Schools. During that time, she held the position of second grade team leader and also served on the school’s leadership team. Emily has a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Master of Library and Information Science, both from the University of Maryland. In her free time, Emily enjoys yoga, baking, and trying new recipes in her Instant Pot. Emily resides in Rockville with her husband, new puppy Macy, and two sons - one a graduate of ECC and the other currently in the Owls class.
